I researched the blog world for a number of years before embarking on this journey. As I was reading and learning, I would ask myself two questions. The first question was what do I have to offer that is different from what already exists in the area of the home? In other words, how would I create a different experience for my readers? The answer came to me quite naturally. I have always felt passionate about telling my home’s story. Yes, I do think a home should tell the homeowner’s story, but I have always felt that it is just as important for us to tell our home’s story. This is when I knew my blog would be a different experience.
As the homeowners, I believe it is our job to continue from where the previous owners left off. Is it always a pretty story that you are left to continue? Absolutely not! The 1970’s brown shag carpet on the office floor that continued onto the window seat and the not-so-pretty floral wallpaper on the walls and ceiling in the powder room are just two small examples in our own home that we were faced with when we moved in 15 years ago.
Once I was able to answer the first question, I followed it up with a second question. What do people need and want when it comes to home design and how do we achieve it? I believe you want to be taught the tools needed to create a classic, simple, and timeless home. You want to learn how to design your home in a budget friendly way that will look just as beautiful years from now as it does today for you and your family. I also believe that you design a home by making it a home. This involves more than you may think. Yes, it includes styling and decorating, but the design of a home also includes homekeeping, organizing, cooking, and entertaining. I will expand on this idea in a future post.
